Sandro DeAngelis is heading to free agency.

The Calgary Stampeders announced Saturday that they have failed in a final attempt to re-sign their veteran kicker prior to his becoming a free agent at 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday.

"I was optimistic that a deal would be reached but that was not the case," Stampeders head coach and GM John Hufnagel said in a release. "The Calgary Stampeders wish Sandro the best of luck in his future endeavours."

DeAngelis scored 176 points last season and was good on 42-of-49 field goal attempts.

In five CFL seasons — all with Calgary — the Niagara Falls, Ont., native has 930 points and a field-goal percentage of 83.8.

In recent weeks, DeAngelis has attended workouts hosted by the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons.
