Anthony Calvillo is eyeing his second consecutive CFL most outstanding player award. (Darren Calabrese/Canadian Press)Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo and Calgary Stampeders running back Joffrey Reynolds were named the finalists Thursday for the CFL's most outstanding player award.
Calvillo, who won the prize last year for the second time, was chosen to represent the East Division by a 62-member panel of football reporters and CFL head coaches after leading Montreal to a league-best 15-3 record.
Calvillo, 37, topped the CFL in touchdown passes (26) and completion percentage (72.0), while finishing third in passing yards (4,639).
Reynolds won the rushing title for the second year in a row with 1,496 yards and scored 11 touchdowns to help Calgary (10-7-1) finish second in the West.
Montreal accounted for the East nominee in five of the six categories. Rush end Anwar Stewart got the division's nod for outstanding defensive player, slotback Ben Cahoon for top Canadian, Larry Taylor for special teams player, and Scott Flory for offensive lineman.
Winnipeg defensive back Jonathan Hefney received the East's nomination for outstanding rookie, joining B.C. running back Martell Mallett.
The remaining finalists from the West are: Saskatchewan end John Chick (defensive player), B.C. defensive end Ricky Foley (Canadian), B.C.'s Jason Arkagi (special teams) and Calgary's Ben Archibald (offensive lineman).
