CFL not expected to hike salary cap in 2010

More bad news for CFL players.

Two league sources requesting anonymity told The Canadian Press on Wednesday that the CFL isn't planning on boosting its $4.2-million salary cap in 2010.

The CFL increased the cap from $4.05 million to its current level in time for the 2008 season.

But the league opted against an increase for 2009 given the economic climate at the time.

While there are signs the economy is slowly coming around, the sources say the CFL will again maintain the status quo.

That's not good news for the players as they head into what's expected to be a tough negotiation with the CFL on a new collective bargaining agreement.

The present deal expires the day before the start of training camp in 2010.

League sources have told CP that two top issues in bargaining between the CFL Players' Association and CFL will be reducing the minimum number of Canadian starters from seven to four while expanding the players' daily work schedule from 4.5 hours to six.
