With the CFL regular season drawing to an end, the Saskatchewan Roughriders solidified their place atop the Western Division, taking home two weekly awards in the process.

Saskatchewan defensive end John Chick was named the top defensive player on Tuesday. He posted a season-high six tackles and a sack as the Riders beat the Calgary Stampeders 30-14 on Saturday and ended the season with 11 sacks.

Chick is the Roughriders nominee for the season's most outstanding defensive player award and finished the regular season tied with teammate Stevie Baggs for the second most QB sacks in the league.

On the other side of the ball, Saskatchewan slotback Andy Fantuz captured the top Canadian award. The native of Chatham, Ont., had a career-high 12 catches for 123 yards in the Riders' win over Calgary. It was the second time this season that Fantuz has caught 10 or more passes.

Fantuz finished the season with a career-best 67 receptions for 882 yards and four touchdowns despite appearing in 13 games.

Edmonton running back Arkee Whitlock rushed for more than 100 yards, scored two touchdowns and was named the CFL's offensive player of the week.

Whitlock ran for 165 yards as the Eskimos beat the B.C. Lions 45-13 to clinch third in the West and was a unanimous selection for the honour. Whitlock, Edmonton's nominee for the league's top rookie award, finished the season with 1,293 yards rushing and tied for second with 13 total touchdowns.

Montreal kicker Damon Duval was a unanimous selection as top special-teams player for the week. Duval booted a club record-tying seven field goals to lead the Alouettes past the Toronto Argonuats 42-17. Duval finished the season with a league-record 242 points.
