CFL Power Rankings: Week 19

Last Updated: Monday, November 9, 2009 | 12:02 PM ET

Once a week, CBCSports.ca breaks down the balance of power in the Canadian Football League.

1. MONTREAL ALOUETTES [unchanged]
Overall record: 15-3
Streak: Two wins

So the dreaded playoffs have arrived and in Montreal there is only one goal – win the Grey Cup. Anything else will be classified a failure (again). Als were 9-0 at home, 6-3 on the road this season. They lost last year's Cup final at home. This year it's in Calgary. We have no idea what any of that means.
2. SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS [up from 3]
Overall record: 10-7-1
Streak: One win

Worried, worried, worried about playing the final in the cauldron of Mosaic Stadium. But we've been pushing Darian Durant as a QB since pre-season so let's be positive here. How about a week's vacation in North Dakota to get away from it all?
3. CALGARY STAMPEDERS [down from 2]
Overall record: 10-7-1
Streak: One loss

Can't the White Stallions do anything the easy way? Must everything be some kind of personal odyssey that only counts if you overcome terrific hardship? Looked so good coming down the stretch only to be run down by the Riders at the wire.
4. HAMILTON TIGER-CATS [unchanged]
Overall record: 9-9
Streak: Three wins

The Kitties have grown into good looking young Cats this year (well, LB Otis Floyd is more like a wise, old, experienced alley cat) and are deserving of a scratch behind the ears. But don't get feeling pleased with yourselves, there's lots of work left to do.
5. EDMONTON ESKIMOS [up from 6]
Overall record: 9-9
Streak: Two wins

Everybody, especially this columnist, had the Eskimos written off, so everything from here is a bonus. The thing with having Ricky Ray as your QB is he is capable of such big things in a one-game situation that it might not matter your defence is lousy.
6. B.C. LIONS [down from 5]
Overall record: 8-10
Streak: Three losses

There's no truth to the rumour coach Wally is dressing one of his daughters as a back-up QB this weekend in Hamilton. (They all apparently said no). The Lions may have to rely a lot on 5th stringer Zac Champion at pivot in the semifinal, a youngster so wet behind the ears the surfers at Tofino get excited when he walks by.
7. WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS [unchanged]
Overall record: 7-11
Streak: Two losses

Thank you for riding the Michael Bishop Experience. Sorry about that little pileup there at the end, but we hope to be back next year (somewhere) for more thrills, spills and chills. Check the 'net for updates on location.
8. TORONTO ARGONAUTS [unchanged]
Overall record: 3-15
Streak: Eight losses

By the time training camp rolls around this club could have new owners, a new GM, a new coach and a new mascot (sorry Jason). Hope the defence comes back though and brings coach Kuharchek with it.
