Once a week, CBCSports.ca breaks down the balance of power in the Canadian Football League.

1. MONTREAL ALOUETTES [unchanged]
Overall record: 13-2 Streak: Five wins Seeing QB Anthony Calvillo walking around with an ice bag on his left calf on Sunday must have given coach Marc Trestman pause. But he seems to have a nice backup in Adrian McPherson if AC's injury nags for a week or two. |

2. CALGARY STAMPEDERS [unchanged]
Overall record: 8-6-1 Streak: Unbeaten in one The Stamps showed a balanced offence to the Riders that seems to have bounced back from a couple of games out on the lone prairie. They gutted a tie on the last play. The final three-game battle for first in the west should be one for the books. |

3. SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS [up from 4]
Overall record: 8-6-1 Streak: Unbeaten in two A locally famous high school football coach of our acquaintance used to growl "If you can't run in November, you can't win in November." A great effort to tie Calgary, but when the weather turns bad the Riders will need somebody to lug that premium cowhide leather. |

4. B.C. LIONS [down from 3]
Overall record: 8-7 Streak: Three wins The Lions may go into the playoffs with Travis Lulay and Casey Printers as their quarterbacks. If coach Wally can pull this off, he really is an inspirational genius. Wouldn't you like to hear what Printers replies the first time Wally pats him on the butt and says "Get in there, big fella. I've got lots of confidence in you?" |

5. EDMONTON ESKIMOS [up from 6]
Overall record: 7-8 Streak: One win It was a long way from pretty (Argos' Kerry Joseph dinged the Esks' defence for 331 yards in the air, for gosh sakes), but at least they got the job done and won when Hamilton and Winnipeg did not. |

6. HAMILTON TIGER-CATS [up from 7]
Overall record: 6-9 Streak: Four losses Kevin Glenn threw for 506 yards against the CFL's best defence in Montreal and lost anyway. This week it's Toronto, and if the Kitties are to deserve a playoff spot they must win this one. Losing would be heartbreaking and embarrassing. |

7. WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS [down from 5]
Overall record: 6-9 Streak: One loss We told you the old Michael Bishop could pop up when you least expect it. He was 13 for 32 with three picks and a fumble against B.C. All you Bombers fans should take a deep breath and hold it for the next three weeks. |

8. TORONTO ARGONAUTS [unchanged]
Overall record: 3-12 Streak: Five losses You'll think we're nuts, but coach Bart Andrus deserves another shot now that he's learned the hard way this isn't American football with a different anthem at the beginning. Defensive co-ordinator Pete Kuharchek is our choice as CFL rookie coach of the year. |
