The Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos are the only unbeaten teams left in the AFC after the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets were defeated for the first time on Sunday.
In the NFC, the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints each pushed their records to 4-0. The Minnesota Vikings can join them on Monday night when quarterback Brett Favre takes the field for the first time against his former team, the Green Bay Packers.
Baltimore fell 27-21 in the marquee early matchup. New England's Tom Brady and Randy Moss hooked up for their first touchdown pass since 2007 and the Ravens came up empty on fourth-down plays on their last two series of the game in Foxborough, Mass.

Brady put New England (3-1) ahead 10-7 with a one-yard run in the second quarter, then connected with Moss on a 14-yard scoring pass in the third to give the Patriots a 24-14 advantage.
Moss's touchdown was his 137th, breaking a tie with Marshall Faulk and moving into sixth place in NFL history.
Joe Flacco threw two touchdown passes for Baltimore (3-1) but was twice incomplete on key throws as a last-minute drive stalled at the New England 14.
The Patriots got a boost from the return of wide receiver Wes Welker, who missed the last two games with a knee injury.
San Diego Chargers 28 at Pittsburgh Steelers 38
In the Sunday night game, Pittsburgh's offensive line dominated San Diego's defensive front en route to 497 offensive yards and more than 40 minutes controlling the ball.
Rashard Mendenhall rushed for 165 yards and two scores while quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes as the Steelers rolled to a 28-0 lead.
Philip Rivers threw for three touchdowns and for 254 yards as the Chargers staged a fourth-quarter rally, but got no closer than seven points before Pittsburgh kicker Jeff Reed ended the suspense with a field goal.
Running back LaDainian Tomlinson was ineffective for San Diego (2-2), gaining just 11 yards on seven carries.
Pittsburgh (2-2) rebounded after an upset loss to Cincinnati last week.
Seattle Seahawks 17 at Indianapolis Colts 34
Peyton Manning led the Colts (4-0) to touchdowns on four of their first five drives Sunday, tied milestones established by Fran Tarkenton and Dan Marino, and extended Indianapolis's regular-season victory streak to 13 with a 34-17 win at home over Seattle.
Manning finished 31 of 41 for 353 yards, marking the first time in 12 NFL seasons he has topped 300 yards in four consecutive games.
The first TD pass went to Reggie Wayne, making Manning and Marino the only quarterbacks in league history to throw 55 TD passes to two different receivers. The second went to rookie Austin Collie after a brilliant audible with three seconds left in the half. It not only gave the Colts a 21-3 halftime lead, but gave Manning a share of third place on the NFL's career touchdowns passing list with Tarkenton. Both have 342.
Only Marino (420) and Brett Favre (469) have thrown more.
Seattle (1-3) played without quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and left tackle Walter Jones, who are both hurt, and lost its third straight.
New York Jets 10 at New Orleans Saints 24
For the second straight week, the vaunted New Orleans passing attack was held in check, but the rest of the team stepped up for its fourth win to start the season.
The defence made Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez look like a rookie, with Darren Sharper returning an interception for a 99-yard touchdown and Remi Ayodele recovering a Sanchez fumble in the end zone for another score.
Thomas Jones rushed for a score to bring the Jets to within 17-10, but Pierre Thomas plunged in from one yard out for the Saints.
Sanchez ended up throwing three interceptions for New York (3-1), completing 14 of 27 passes for just 138 yards.
Dallas Cowboys 10 at Denver Broncos 17
Brandon Marshall caught a Kyle Orton pass and broke several Dallas tackles to score a 51-yard touchdown with 1:46 left to break a 10-10 tie and keep Denver unbeaten.
Dallas quarterback Tony Romo completed a fourth-down pass to Miles Austin for 53 yards in response, but failed to connect on two pass attempts in the end zone as the clock wound down.
Marion Barber returned from injury to rush for a one-yard scored for Dallas (2-2), who led 10-0 early, while Orton threw a nine-yard pass to rookie running back Knowshon Moreno for Denver's other touchdown.
The Broncos sacked Romo five times and harassed him on several other plays. Romo had Dallas deep in Denver territory in the third quarter as well, but threw an interception to Champ Bailey.
Orton through four games has five touchdown passes and no interceptions.
New York Giants 27 at Kansas City Chiefs 16
Eli Manning threw three touchdown passes before leaving in the fourth quarter Sunday with a bruised heel, and the unbeaten New York Giants (4-0) coasted 27-16 over the winless and hapless Kansas City Chiefs.
Manning was 20-for-34 for 292 yards before giving way to David Carr midway through the fourth quarter. He seemed to be favouring his right leg moments before throwing a quick out to Hakeem Nicks, which he turned into a 54-yard scoring play for a 27-3 lead with about 11 minutes left.
Matt Cassel threw two short touchdown passes in the final minutes for Kansas City (0-4).
Detroit Lions 24 at Chicago Bears 48
Jay Cutler threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, and the Bears pulled away in the second half to beat the Lions 48-24 on Sunday a week after Detroit snapped its 19-game losing streak last week.
Matt Forte ran for 121 yards, rookie Johnny Knox returned a kickoff 102 yards and the Bears headed into their bye with their third straight win.
The Lions (1-2) had a third down on the Bears' six-yard line when he was sacked by Adewale Ogunleye, forcing Detroit to kick a field goal that cut Chicago's lead to 34-24. Stafford had his leg wrapped and Daunte Culpepper replaced him on Detroit's next drive, a sobering sight for a team that has taken its share of blows over the years.
Detroit watched as No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford twisted his right knee and was replaced by veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Star receiver Calvin Johnson also left, with an undisclosed leg injury.
With a chance to put together consecutive wins for the first time since 2007, the Lions hung in for a half before Chicago (3-1) pulled away.
The Bears' Devin Hester also suffered an injury, hurting shoulder in the second quarter, and Knox injured his right leg in the second half, leaving the Bears thin at wide receiver.

The lowly Rams fell to 0-4, giving the 49ers a trio of touchdowns on turnovers.
Scott McKillop recovered a botched punt return in the end zone for a touchdown, with star linebacker Patrick Willis intercepting a Kyle Boller pass and taking it 23 yards the other way for a score.
Boller, starting for the injured Marc Bulger, also fumbled the ball, returned 11 yards by Ray McDonald for a score.
Quarterback Shaun Hill connected with tight end Vernon Davis and receiver Josh Morgan for touchdown passes for San Francisco (3-1).
Tennessee Titans 17 at Jacksonville Jaguars 37
David Garrard threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns, two to Mike Sims-Walker, and the Jacksonville Jaguars dismantled the Tennessee Titans 37-17 Sunday.
Garrard shredded Tennessee's injury depleted secondary, often picking on rookie cornerback Jason McCourty, and Jacksonville's defence made the Titans (0-4) look, well, like a winless team.
The Jaguars (2-2) put on an offensive show for the second time in as many weeks.
Garrard completed 27 of 37 passes, the latest quarterback to burn the NFL's 29th-ranked pass defence.
Buffalo Bills 10 at Miami Dolphins 38
Ronnie Brown rushed for two touchdowns and Ricky Williams another to make quarterback Chad Henne a winner in his first NFL start.
Henne threw a touchdown pass to Brian Hartline and avoided interceptions, while cornerback Vontae Davis picked off a pass from Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards and took it 23 yards for a score.
Former B.C. Lions standout Cameron Wake showed his talent for Miami (1-3), finishing with six tackles and three sacks.
Bills receiver Terrell Owens, who saw his streak of 185 consecutive games with a catch end last week, finished with three receptions. Owens has just eight catches through four games.
Buffalo (1-3) scored its only touchdown on an Edwards pass to Josh Reed with the game already out of hand.
Cincinnati Bengals 23 at Cleveland Browns 20
Shayne Graham's 31-yard field goal, set up by Carson Palmer's 15-yard run on fourth down, on the last play of overtime gave the Cincinnati Bengals a 23-20 win over the winless Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Not wanting to settle for a tie, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis gambled and decided to go for it on 4th-and-11 from the 41 with 1:04 remaining.
Palmer dropped back to pass, and then tucked it away and scampered up the middle for the first down. Cincinnati (3-1)ran two plays to get Graham in position, and the kicker, who had an extra point and field goal blocked, drilled it through the uprights.
The Browns (0-4) lost their 10th straight dating back to last season.
Oakland Raiders 6 at Houston Texans 29
Steve Slaton scored two touchdowns, Jacoby Jones returned a kickoff for a score as the Houston Texans beat the Oakland Raiders 29-6.
The Texans (2-2) finally found their running game and figured out a way to shut down someone else's as Houston's NFL-worst defence held the Raiders to 45 yards rushing. The Texans were allowing 205 yards rushing entering the game.
Houston also forced three turnovers and got its first safety in almost seven years.
The Raiders (1-3) continued to struggle, with JaMarcus Russell completing 12-of-33 passes for 128 yards and Darren McFadden finishing with six carries for minus-three yards rushing.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13 at Washington Redskins 16
The Washington Redskins (2-2) were booed off the field again, down 10 points at halftime to a winless team. In the third quarter, they found some of the energy, life and momentum missing all season.
Jason Campbell made up for a pair of first-half interceptions with two second-half touchdowns, and the Redskins scored on three straight possessions for the first time this season Sunday in a 16-13 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-4).
