After a stint with the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL and being cut by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, quarterback Casey Printers has returned to the B.C. Lions.

Printers, the 2004 Canadian Football League MVP, signed a practice contract with the Lions on Monday, more than three years after leaving the team.

The signing comes after current Lions quarterback Jarious Jackson was injured in a 28-24 road loss to Montreal on Sept. 13. It is reported that Jackson could miss at least three weeks — and perhaps the rest of the season — with a damaged rotator cuff in his right (throwing) shoulder.

Printers played three successful seasons for the Lions, but controversy arose in Printer's MVP year when Lions head coach Wally Buono benched him in favour of veteran quarterback Dave Dickenson in B.C.'s 27-19 loss to the Argonauts in the 92nd Grey Cup.

This led to Printers refusing a three-year, $1.2-million contract offer from the team in 2005. He later signed with the Chiefs in 2006, where he failed to impress and spent the entire season on the practice roster.

Printers made his CFL return when he signed a three-year contract, reportedly worth $1.5 million, with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in September 2007.

Printers was dismal in his time with the Ticats last season, completing just 55.6 per cent of his passes for 1,693 yards and five touchdowns with 10 interceptions as Hamilton posted a woeful 3-15 record.

When he was named MVP with the Lions in 2004, he threw for 5,088 yards and 35 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
