Laval will be seeking a record-tying sixth national football title next season on home turf. (Dave Chidley/Canadian Press)The Vanier Cup, Canadian university football's championship game, has found a home for the next two years.
Laval University in Quebec City won the rights Thursday for 2009 and 2010, just weeks after capturing its fifth national college football title in 10 seasons.
Next year's contest will mark the first time the Vanier Cup has been played in Quebec and only the second time outside Ontario.
Earlier this month, a slew of last-minute bids prompted Canadian Interuniversity Sport to postpone a decision on the host city.
The CIS received no proposals prior to the bidding deadline in November.
Then, the Laval Rouge et Or submitted a letter of intent for both the 2009 and 2010 games just before their 44-21 Vanier Cup victory over Western in Hamilton on Nov. 22.
Their bid was considered a done deal, but since that time additional bids arrived from Saint Mary's in Halifax (2009 and 2010), Western in London, Ont. (2010), Calgary (2010) and MRX, a sports marketing company that presented a variety of options.
