Bills rule out Greer, Royal for Sunday

Starting safety Whitner doubtful with shoulder injury

The Buffalo Bills will be without starting cornerback Jabari Greer and starting tight end Robert Royal for Sunday's crucial home game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Head coach Dick Jauron declared both players out of action on Friday due to injuries, while also announcing that starting defensive end Aaron Schobel will miss his seventh straight game with a foot injury.

Starting strong safety Donte Whitner, who's nursing a separated shoulder, is doubtful. Whitner has missed two of the last three games — including last week's 54-31 win at Kansas City — since hurting the shoulder in a loss to the New York Jets on Nov. 2.

Royal hurt his hamstring in the win over the Chiefs and didn't practise all week. Greer's right knee was injured in a Monday night loss to Cleveland two weeks ago and will miss his second straight game.

Backup defensive lineman John McCargo (back) and backup linebacker Teddy Lehman (hamstring) are also out for Sunday, while starting linebacker Keith Ellison (ankle) and tight end Derek Schouman (hamstring) are questionable.

Buffalo (6-5) needs a win over lowly San Francisco (3-8) to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot.

The Bills trail the AFC East-leading Jets by two games, and are a game back of Indianapolis, Baltimore and New England in the chase for the two wild cards.

Buffalo finishes the regular season with games against Miami (at Toronto), at New York against the Jets, at Denver and home to New England.
