Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Ricky Ray became the first two-time recipient of the CFL's offensive player of the week award this season, besting Saskatchewan running back Wes Cates in voting Wednesday.

Ray led his team to a 35-24 Week 6 win over the B.C. Lions last Thursday, completing 23 of 30 passes for 392 yards and two touchdowns.

The sixth-year CFLer also carried the ball six times for 18 yards and a pair of majors, finishing the game with a passer efficiency rating of 142.6.

Ray headlined a trio of Week 2 performers, throwing for 448 yards and three touchdowns against Calgary.

He is second to Montreal's Anthony Calvillo in league passing this season, amassing 1,953 yards and completing 66.2 per cent of his attempts.

Cates rushed for 139 yards on 18 carries and caught two passes for 21 yards and a touchdown in the Roughriders' 22-21 victory over Calgary on Saturday.

He leads the CFL with 632 yards on the ground, more than 150 yards ahead of his closest competitor, Avon Cobourne of the Montreal Alouettes.

Toronto's Jonathan Brown was a unanimous selection for defensive honours, recording two quarterback sacks and a tackle in Friday's 19-11 win over Winnipeg.

The defensive end has 19 defensive tackles and four sacks this season.

Brown's teammate, Dominique Dorsey, was the top special teams player after he returned a punt 94 yards for a touchdown.

He led the CFL in Week 6 with 241 kick-return yards, 142 of which came on six punt returns.

Dorsey, who also won the award in Week 2, is the league leader in punt return yards (382) and combined yards (1,233) while sitting third in kick return yards (515).

Top Canadian for the week was Montreal slotback Ben Cahoon, who amassed 89 yards and six first downs on nine receptions as the Alouettes outlasted Hamilton 40-33.

For the season, Cahoon has 27 catches for 314 yards and two touchdowns.

Edmonton receiver Kamau Peterson was runner-up after collecting 66 yards on three receptions against B.C.
