Leif Pettersen, a former CFL receiver and television analyst, died Thursday. He was 57.
Pettersen, a second-round draft choice by the Roughriders in 1974, played eight seasons with Saskatchewan and with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
He made Grey Cup appearances with both teams and made the all-star team in 1979, when he led the East in pass receptions.
"I am deeply saddened by the passing of my teammate and friend Leif Pettersen," said Riders president and CEO Jim Hopson in a release.
"I have memories of a young, fun guy who was always a positive force on the team but more importantly great recent memories of a good friend who was continually kind and gracious in his support and happiness for the success of the Riders …
"It will not be the same going to Toronto and Leif isn't there to welcome us."
Pettersen joined TSN as a CFL analyst in 1986.
"Leif was one of the most competitive people I have ever met," said Keith Pelley, Toronto Argonauts president and CEO and former TSN president. "He loved to win, whether it be in golf or football. The only thing he loved more than winning was his family. I will really miss him."
