Edmonton Eskimos receiver Jason Tucker is recovering in a hospital in Hamilton after undergoing neck surgery late Saturday.
"The operation went very well and Jason is resting comfortably. He'll have to undergo further tests and it's hoped he can return to Edmonton by the end of the week," said team president Rick LeLacheur.
Tucker, 32, was taken off the field during the third quarter of the Eskimos' 19-13 win in Hamilton on Friday. He suffered a fractured and dislocated vertebrae following a scary collision with Tiger-Cats defensive back Jykine Bradley.
The wide receiver was examined on the field and was experiencing high neck and back pain, but was apparently able to move his fingers and legs while being strapped into the stretcher before being taken to hospital.
The Eskimos announced Saturday that Tucker will miss the rest of the season.
A sixth-round pick of the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals in 1998, Tucker is in his seventh season with the Eskimos, and was part of their 2003 and 2005 Grey Cup-winning teams.
