CFL releases 2008 regular-season schedule

Last Updated: Thursday, February 21, 2008 | 9:20 AM ET

A doubleheader featuring divisional rivals will kick off the 2008 CFL regular season schedule.

The CFL released its 72-game schedule on Thursday and for the first time since 1977, the regular season will begin in Hamilton with the Tiger-Cats taking on the Montreal Alouettes on June 26. The second game of the doubleheader features the Calgary Stampeders hosting the B.C. Lions.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers open the season at home against the Toronto Argonauts the following night and the Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders welcome the Edmonton Eskimos on June 28.

The division rivalries continue in the second week of the season when the Argonauts host the Ticats, the Eskimos welcome the Stampeders, the Alouettes clash with the Blue Bombers in Montreal and the Lions play their home opener against the Roughriders.

The second half of the season is highlighted by the CFL's annual Labour Day and Thanksgiving Day doubleheaders

The 72-game regular season schedule, which will be played over 19 weeks and includes one bye week per team, concludes on Nov. 1 with a pair of games — Hamilton at Winnipeg, and B.C. versus Calgary — before the playoffs get underway the following weekend.

The 96th Grey Cup is schedule for Nov. 23 in Montreal.
