Veteran linebacker Singor Mobley, who spent his nine-year CFL career with the Edmonton Eskimos, announced his retirement on Friday.

Mobley, 34, won Grey Cups with Edmonton in 2003 and 2005, earning the team's nomination for most outstanding defensive player in the latter year. In 1995, Mobley set a team record with 129 yards on three fumble recoveries.

Last season, Mobley started all 18 games and finished second on the Eskimos with 59 defensive tackles, including one sack, and added an interception. But despite that solid production, he was released by the team in March.

After debuting with the Eskimos out of Washington State University in 1995, Mobley made the roster of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys in 1997.

He appeared in 43 regular-season games over three seasons with the Cowboys, who deployed him mostly as a special-teamer.

Mobley returned to the Eskimos in 2000, and finished his 158-game CFL career with 602 defensive tackles, 78 special teams tackles, 21 sacks and four forced fumbles.

He also had 21 fumble returns for 266 yards and two touchdowns, and 15 interceptions for 360 yards and three touchdowns.
