Hamilton Tiger-Cats fans will still see plenty of Tim Cheatwood this summer in the Canadian Football League.

The Montreal Alouettes signed the defensive end Friday, one week after Cheatwood was released by the Ticats.

Hamilton cut the 28-year-old for salary-cap reasons, but speculation is the former CFL all-star is struggling to recover from a season-ending knee injury suffered in an 11-9 loss to the Toronto Argonauts on Sept. 9.

"Tim is a young player who has a lot of CFL experience," Alouettes general manager and coach Jim Popp said in a release. "We're thrilled he chose Montreal and look forward to seeing him showcase his talent at training camp."

Cheatwood had 37 defensive tackles and a team-high six quarterback sacks in 13 games before getting hurt.

The six-foot-four, 258-pound Ohio State product has totalled 225 tackles, 41 sacks, four fumble recoveries and a touchdown in 76 games since signing a free-agent contract with Hamilton on May 17, 2002.

Cheatwood was a league all-star in 2004 after posting a CFL-high 14 sacks.

Montreal fell 25-14 to the B.C. Lions in last year's Grey Cup after finishing atop the East Division with a 10-8 record.
