San Francisco 49ers have dumped the NFL's Bachelor, Jesse Palmer.

San Francisco waived Palmer, who's from Nepean, Ont., to make room for Gibran Hamdan, who was claimed off waivers from Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday.

"I didn't see Jesse making the final cut,'' said San Francisco coach Mike Nolan, when asked about releasing Palmer.

A fourth-round draft pick by the Giants in the 2001 draft, Palmer spent four unspectacular seasons with New York before spending the last three weeks of last season with San Francisco.

Perhaps Palmer's biggest claim to fame is his appearance on TV's The Bachelor. More than two dozen single women courted Palmer on the popular reality show. Every week, Palmer would eliminate potential suitors until one woman remained.

Palmer eventually selected Jessica Bowlin, a 20-something California law student. The couple broke up two months later.

Palmer wasn't the only Canadian NFL hopeful receive his walking papers this week. On Tuesday, the Washington Redskins released running back Jesse Lumsden.

Lumsden, who in 2004 was the top player in Canadian university football, is considering his options, including returning to the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
