Steve
Armitage brings vast amount of experience to the chameleon-like
roles he plays within CBC Sports.
During
his 37 years with CBC Sports, Armitage has covered virtually
every sport:
Most recently, Armitage travelled to Asia for CBC Sports'
coverage of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was rinkside for short
and long-track speed skating at the 2002 Winter Olympics in
Salt Lake City. He was a sideline reporter for the 2001 Grey
Cup Championship game; swimming announcer at the Sydney 2000
Olympic Summer Games and the 1999 Pan Am Games.
Armitage
was also the announcer for short and long-track speed skating
at the Winter Olympics in Nagano; worked on World Cup soccer;
Export "A" Skins Golf; and hockey for Hockey Night
in Canada. He was also the studio host for the Canada Games
from 1986 to 1994.
In
1982, Armitage received the Foster Hewitt Award for Excellence
in Sports Broadcasting.
Armitage
was born in High Wycombe, England. He grew up in Dartmouth,
Nova Scotia, and the former St. Mary's University quarterback
has been living in Vancouver for the past 25 years.
