Linebacker Eric Samuels is back with the Edmonton Eskimos after suffering a neck injury in Friday night's 33-23 road win over the Montreal Alouettes.

Samuels, 23, was taken off the field on a stretcher in the fourth quarter following a special-teams play. Samuels gave a thumbs-up as he left and went immediately to a Montreal hospital for examination.

The Eskimos confirmed Saturday that Samuels suffered a neck injury and was taken to hospital for precautionary tests. The results of those tests weren't revealed but the CFL club said Samuels was later released and travelled with the team to Ottawa.

The Eskimos added their medical staff will continue to monitor Samuels.

Edmonton faces the Redblacks on Friday night.
