Veteran safety Tom Europe is retiring after 11 CFL seasons.
The 33-year-old Europe is calling it quits after a nagging hamstring injury kept him on the sidelines for most of last season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
"It just seemed like the right time to go," Europe said. "It just seemed like the right time to go."
In eight games, Europe had 11 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, one pass knockdown and one fumble return.
Europe spent the last five years with the Bombers and had 483 defensive tackles, 212 interceptions and 12 fumble returns in 175 CFL games with British Columbia, Montreal and Winnipeg.
He was a member of the Lions' Grey Cup team in 1994.
A graduate of Bishop's University, Europe was originally selected ninth overall by the Lions in the 1993 Canadian College Draft.
