Defending world champions Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany used a personal best score to jump out to the lead after the pairs short program at the Trophée Bompard in Paris on Friday.

The German figure-skaters improved on their personal best of 72.30 with a 72.98, while European bronze medallists Maria Mukhortova and Maxim Trankov of Russia scored 66.88, good for second.

Canadians Jessica Dubé and Bryce Davison sit in third position with 64.54 points.
