"The thing I really loved about the Canada Games is that for us, it was a mini Olympics. It was an opportunity to meet and get to know a lot of athletes doing other winter sports.

"Also, I won there, and by winning, I qualified to go to the world junior championships. So, actually by winning the Canada Games, I was able to compete in my first-ever international event. That was a real eye-opener.

"Now that I race on the World Cup circuit, I realize how beneficial it was to be at those world junior championships. Thanks to the Canada Winter Games I qualified for those and it was just a really good stepping stone in that way."
