Betker began the day at 5-0, but she lost 9-6 to Heather Strong of Newfoundland and Labrador before bouncing back with an 8-7 victory over Quebec's Chantal Osborne in evening play.

"This morning, we didn't have a very good game," Betker said. "And we didn't play very well.

"But you just trash that one. Anytime you have any part of first place, that's a good spot to be in."

Scott, from Kelowna, B.C., eked out an 8-7 extra-end win over Ontario's Krista Scharf and trounced Kerry Koe of the Northwest Territories and Yukon 10-2 in six ends.

"Right now, we're playing good enough to win and that's what we like," Scott said. "We want to fine tune it even more."

Scharf later scored an 8-5 victory over Koe to improve to 5-2 overall.

Jones kept pace with the leaders by slipping past Suzanne Gaudet of Prince Edward Island 7-6 in afternoon action and thumping B.C.'s Kelley Law 11-5 in the nightcap.

Law also dropped a 8-7 decision to Gaudet in the morning draw, leaving her tied at 4-3 with Alberta's Cheryl Bernard.

Quebec's Chantal Osborne and Strong both sit 3-4 followed by Gaudet and Koe at 2-5.

Nova Scotia's Jill Mouzar notched her first victory on Tuesday night, doubling winless Sandy Comeau of New Brunswick 8-4.
