Meaghan Benfeito wins 2nd diving gold at Commonwealth Games
Synchro teammate Filion wins bronze
Montreal diver Meaghan Benfeito won her second gold medal of the Commonwealth Games on Thursday, winning the title in the women’s 10-metre platform event.
Benfeito finished with a combined score of 372.65 points for the victory, adding another gold to go along with the one she won in the women’s 10-metre platform synchro event earlier in the competition.
Synchro teammate Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., will join Benfeito on the podium. She finished in the bronze medal position with a combined score of 361.80.
Pandelela Rinong Pamg of Malaysia took silver with 368.55 points.
Elsewhere, Canada won more gold in weightlifting, gymnastics, and wrestling on Day 8.
In wrestling, Danielle Lappage took the title in the women’s freestyle 63 kg class, while Tamerlan Tagziev won gold in the men’s 86 kg event.
Gymnast Scott Morgan of North Vancouver, B.C., won gold in the rings competition to add to the silver he won earlier in the day in the floor event. Kevin Lytwyn of Stoney Creek, Ont., took the silver.
Weightlifter George Kobaladze set a Commonwealth Games record on the way to winning the title in the men’s 105+ kg category.
