Jennifer Abel wins diving gold at Commonwealth Games

Canadian diver Jennifer Abel defended her Commonwealth Games title in Glasgow on Friday, repeating as champion of the women’s one-metre springboard event.

Canadian diver Jennifer Abel defended her Commonwealth Games title in Glasgow on Friday, repeating as champion of the women’s one-metre springboard event.​

Abel, of Laval, Que., earned a five-dive total of 287.25 points for the victory. Madison Keeney of Australia won silver with 281.95 points, while Aussie teammate Georgia Sheehan took bronze.

Abel won Commonwealth gold in Delhi 2010 in the same event.

Pamela Ware of Beloeil, Que., finished in sixth place. Emma Friesen of North Vancouver, B.C., was 11th.

Abel and Ware won silver in the women's synchronized three-metre springboard final on Wednesday.

Canada has earned five diving medals so far in Glasgow (three gold, one silver, one bronze).
