Canada's Jennifer Abel wins silver in women's 3m springboard

Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., won silver on the women's individual three-metre board during the first stop on the FINA World Series diving circuit Saturday in Beijing, China.

China's He Zi took gold with 395.65 points, followed by Abel (335.20) and Italy's Tania Cagnotto (330.70).

Abel averaged 7.5's from the judges on all her five dives in the final.

Earlier Saturday, Abel won her semifinal heat with a similar performance, totalling 339.75 points to stand second overall heading into the evening final.

Laval's Roseline Filion and Montreal's Meaghan Benfeito will compete in the individual 10-metre tower event on Sunday. Filion and Benfeito took silver in the 10-metre synchro on Friday.

The FINA World Series has expanded from four to six stops this season and is reserved for the top-ranked eight divers in the world in each event.
