Your 5 Questions: East vs. West, playing in Montreal
You asked and Kevin Weekes answered. See what the Hockey Night in Canada analyst and former NHL veteran had to say about the Islanders coaching change and the best Canadian city to play in.

Observations from the Western front
There's no denying the depth in the NHL's Western Conference. Teams know that they have to be close to their best every night to have a chance because they can't bluff their way to wins on the left side of the NHL landscape.

Skating most important aspect of goaltending
I see so many parents and coaches in minor hockey making the age-old mistake: "Put Joey or Jenny in net, they can't skate!" They couldn't be any more off base!

How the (North) West will be won
The 2010-11 NHL season is upon us and there are so many things to be excited about.

Sharks and Avs both take next steps
It was really fun to cover the San Jose-Colorado series because many experts and fans thought it wouldn't be much of a contest, but they ended up being treated to a six-game surprise.

Under-the-radar additions key for Sharks
Finishing as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and second in the NHL is nothing to shrug your shoulders at, right? Unless you are a member of THIS year's San Jose Sharks.

Sometimes you just find that perfect 'fit'
What is that 'it factor' that makes these things so natural, so ideal, so comfy? I knew when I had that 'feeling' with a certain team that I played for. I tried explaining it to family, friends, loved ones and my agent, but the results spoke for themselves.

Wings taking flight - again
The lull is over. Just under a month ago the Detroit Red Wings were out of the NHL playoff picture. But now, they seem to have found their stride again. And it's that same stride that's kept them competitive for nearly two decades.

Flexibility is the key to Canucks' season
When you hear the word flexibility, you might usually think of it in terms of contorting and extending one's body parts into crazy positions the way figure skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, gymnast Nastia Liukin or the incomparable Dominik Hasek (who's still kickin' at 45) do.

Protecting players from themselves
With the latest unnecessary and deliberate hit to the head, I couldn't think of a better time for the NHL's general managers to be meeting than right now.

Olympics reinforce value of talented defenceman
First off, I want to commend all the residents of beautiful B.C for doing such an outstanding job hosting the Olympics. With the world (as many as three billion pairs of eyeballs) watching, you guys nailed it!

Development the secret behind Avalanche's talent
After broadcasting the Oilers-Avalanche game this past Saturday night, like most of you, I was amazed at the amount of great young talent Colorado had on display. The real magic or the Caramilk secret to their upstart success this year and in years past starts, but doesn't end, at the draft table.

Big trades could revive market
We know for a fact that it's not March 3 (NHL trade deadline day), but we'd have to go a long way to tell Darryl Sutter, Brian Burke and Glen Sather otherwise. These three general managers shocked their 27 peers and served notice that regardless of how challenging and nearly impossible people think it is to make trades in a salary cap system, their "outside-of-the-box" thinking has proven otherwise.

Hockey memories all across Canada
In the spirit of celebrating the 10th annual Hockey Day in Canada hosted by Stratford, Ont., I 'd like to share some of my experiences in the small towns and big cities all across Canada. These communities serve as the lifeblood of the great game of hockey. Please don't be offended if your town or city isn't mentioned below. It’s only because of time restraints. I’d be typing all day!

Rick DiPietro's comeback a lesson in perseverance
So, you’re the poster child and best goalie prospect to ever come out of the infamous Boston University hockey program. You play for your country in the world junior tournament, become the first pick overall (as a goaltender no less) in the NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders and on draft day they trade both Roberto Luongo and yours truly. You get fast tracked to the league and play roughly 100 games in the minors. You represent your country in world championships and your father is a Vietnam veteran who served your country. You become the franchise player for the Islanders, evolve into an NHL all-star, sign 'the contract' then boom - the dreaded injury bug puts your career in complete uncertainty. Welcome to Rick DiPietro's world.

Playoffs in January?
If my math is correct, the Stanley Cup playoffs don't typically start until early or mid-April. At least, that's what I remember as a young fan and aspiring NHL goaltender and as an NHL veteran. But somehow, as a broadcaster and analyst, my math and eyes both chose to deceive me last Saturday night (Jan. 9).

Undrafted, undaunted
When evaluating hockey players at any level, remember this: It's an inexact science. This is an open letter to fans, young players, parents, and coaches at all levels, but particularly in minor and junior hockey. Since I was six-years-old, my goal was to be an NHL goaltender. The beauty of my parents being born and raised in beautiful Barbados was that this goal was mine with no pressure, only unconditional support.
