How I prepare for the biggest event ever

With the biggest curling event in Canadian history ready to commence, it's hard to keep your thoughts off the event and on the process.

I think it's very important to focus on the mechanics of your delivery as well as clearing your mind as you get mentally prepared for the Roar of the Rings. It's difficult, however, to avoid getting bombarded by all the distractions surrounding an event of this magnitude.

My final week prior to the Roar will consist of two on-ice sessions with our coach Jules Owchar each day along with all members of our team. It's crucial that we all go into the trials with strong mechanics, so that the mechanics can stand up to the intense pressure that will certainly be there in Edmonton.

We'll also make sure everything is in order at home and at work so there are no mental distractions. When the Roar starts, it's important that your mind be clear of outside thoughts so you can concentrate on the job at hand.

Media attention is also a concern. There is much more media activity at an event like this. Our team always sets up a media session where we are available to all types of media. It's important to avoid being interrupted all week by various reporters. Instead, you have all media come and get their stories at the same time.

My philosophy on sport is very simple: You only ever win your fair share, and the more you practice your fair share increases.

It's important to know that, win or lose, you've done your absolute best and left nothing on the table.

I feel we've done that. So let the games begin.
