Making the most of each day
November 4, 2009 10:30 AM | Posted by Jennifer BotterillTime really does seem to go by rather quickly. That being said, our team is making the most of each day as the Olympics are rapidly approaching. With each day that passes it is clear that our drive, our determination, and our excitement grow stronger.
Our journey to this point has been a demanding one. Our training and our competition schedule are more intense than we have ever experienced. We know that we are pushing ourselves.
We also know that the Olympics in Vancouver will be an experience on an entire different level than what Canadian elite athletes have experienced before.
It is fun to see how the country is starting to catch the Olympic spirit and show their support. With the upcoming 100 days, I think that energy and enthusiasm will be contagious.
Our team is celebrating this countdown day in Finland. We are over here for the Four Nations Tournament. It’s the second of our international tournaments leading up to Vancouver 2010.
Our first game went well against Sweden – a 4-0 win on Tuesday, with our next game against Finland. We then play the USA in the last game of round-robin play before the medal round.
It’s always fun to be in a big competition.
The schedule we have had for the first few months of our centralization has been extremely busy. We typically have a few games a week against the boys teams in Alberta, or international teams.
Along with travel, practices, and training, we are all working very hard.
We’ve had some great team building days as well, and every person on this teams feels incredibly grateful to be a part of this. We try to push ourselves each day in attempts to be better than we have ever been before. As hockey players, it’s nice that we can go through this together, and continue to support each other in the best possible way.
After getting a sneak peak at the beautiful Olympic village and the Olympic venues when we were in Vancouver for a tournament, it certainly increased our motivation. We got a small taste of the thrill that it will be for all of the Canadian athletes at the Olympics... in only a short few months.
