Summer for most people is about looking forward to long weekends, travelling to new places or just going to the cabin and sitting out in the sun. My summer has been about seeing family, going to the gym and journeying back to winter.
Granted, going to the cold is not a traditional summer activity, but qualifying for the Olympic Games is coming up and my chances look good so I’m embracing the challenge.
Don’t plan the parade just yet, Man City fans
Monday, August 31, 2009 | 02:28 PM ETThree wins in three games to start the season. All is well in the blue half of Manchester.
Bankrolled by an oil-rich sugar daddy, Manchester City is the talk of the town two weeks into the Premiership season, with supporters of the Blues in a frenzied forth over the fortunes and future of their club.
I’ve seen this before.
Kelly the latest victim in NHLPA's internal power play
Monday, August 31, 2009 | 11:25 AM ETAnd so, less than two years on the job, 30 NHL players have determined that Paul Kelly was not doing a good job as executive director of the NHL Players' Association.
According to whispers, he was too tight with the league, didn't work hard enough at getting to know his own constituents and didn't focus on the issues the players felt were most important, whatever the heck that means. There is even one report that suggests his biggest sin was being too media friendly.
Is Toronto a "world class" sports city?
Thursday, August 27, 2009 | 11:20 AM ETThe time is at hand for Toronto.
This weekend the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and its evaluation committee will pay a visit to see if Metro and the Greater Golden Horseshoe have what it takes to host the 2015 Pan Am Games.
What will they see?
Young Ipswich goalkeeper wise beyond his years
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 | 04:08 PM ETIs being a professional footballer the best job in the world? Ask anyone who has ever had the privilege of earning an income playing the game they love that very question, and they will probably answer, "Absolutely!"
What's the real reason behind Danny Dichio being frozen out by Toronto FC?
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 | 10:17 AM ETFor a player known for his combative and confrontational playing style, Danny Dichio exudes a quiet thoughtfulness off the field.
No more road rage for Toronto FC
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 | 02:13 AM ETSuccessful relationships rely on a number of factors. Love, honesty and trust are three essentials, but to my mind even these key ingredients are not enough. A relationship will not work, in the long term, if it is missing the glue, which binds it all together.
Make no mistake, Canada is Babcock’s team
Tuesday, August 25, 2009 | 09:36 PM ETWhile nobody can technically play himself on or off Team Canada at this orientation camp here in Calgary, there are a few things we can start to glean after two days of work.
First, this is Mike Babcock’s team. Period.
My lifelong Olympic dream comes true
Tuesday, August 25, 2009 | 11:32 AM ETI was hoping I'd have good news for this blog… and it turns out that I do!
We just finished our Olympic trials a couple days ago, and I am relieved and excited to say that I officially made the short track team for the Vancouver Olympics in 2010.
Time for refs to give clutching, grabbing the boot
Monday, August 24, 2009 | 01:59 PM ETThe question over whether or not soccer needs to institute video replay or instant goal-line technology has been kicked around for some time now.
The debate has gained plenty of steam over the years thanks to a series of high-profile incidents where referees couldn’t recognize in a blink of an eye that the ball did cross the goal-line and that a goal should have been awarded.
