Trade day is kind of like Christmas

As I write this it is 10:34 in the AM, trade day.

This day has become to me as an adult what Christmas was to me as a child. I get all excited and for some odd reason a tad nervous the night before.

You have a hard time sleeping and despite the lack of winks, you wake up really early.

I remember as a kid my brother and I used to get up at 5 a.m. and race downstairs to see if Santa had come. Obviously being an Irish Catholic with great parents, Santa always made it. Sometimes though, the odd holiday, I'd go to bed with such high expectations that no matter what I got the next day I was never satisfied.

Trade deadline day has become my Christmas.

I couldn't sleep last night, continuously checking my crackberry for messages from friends or co-workers, constantly on trade-tracking websites and rumour-mill sites (which I hate but when in Rome ...). I didn't want to miss anything.

I laugh about it this morning because who cares if it happened at 2:34 a.m. last night or early this morning, who was I going to tell and celebrate the news with. I eventually fell asleep. Alarm was set for 7:30 a.m. For some reason, just like Christmas, and I hate when this happens, I woke up at 6:27 a.m.. Slept four hours. Why? Wish I knew.

And so far this Christmas, sorry, trade day is a sleeper. Reminds me of one Dec. 25th where I was hoping for the new Atari and Santa wound up bringing me a ColecoVision. It was an entertainment system, just not the one that I waited up all night and hoped I got the next day.

As of 10:52 a.m., finishing up ... so far this trade day is a ColecoVision.
