Please answer my question, Mr. Carbonneau

I wanted to write this Wednesday, right after Guy Carbonneau spoke at the Bell Centre regarding his dismissal of his coaching duties with the Montreal Canadiens.

I wanted to but I just couldn't. It's really not my fault as I suffer from a really serious illness known as Procrastination. It's something that has been plaguing me for quite some time.

PJ stops, takes a break and has a coffee.

Where was I? Yeah, so this procrastination thing. Guy Carbonneau held a press conference. His first time speaking to the media in 10 days.

To celebrate his 49th birthday, he gathered all the media together and politely thanked everyone for his time with the Canadiens. He looked the best he’s looked in a while. Carbo said that he wouldn't talk about the current team's play until the season is done, out of respect for the players, Bob Gainey and the organization. As a result, no one really challenged him with a question or remark. Nothing was really outside the box, same ol’ same ol’ stupid questions: Does this team need more francophone players and does the coach need to speak French? Guy politely answered all those Qs.

PJ gets up, walks around, finds a tennis ball and starts throwing it against the wall. Twenty minutes later...

Back to Wednesday. There was one moment that got everybody excited. Carbo was asked to discuss his lack of communication with the players. He responded that he speaks to the media everyday and has no problem communicating with them. It didn't really make too much sense to me, but nonetheless he answered it without knocking anyone directly. He mentioned that his door was open all the time, but no one would ever take advantage of it.

The players, well, maybe they had their own ideas because they called him out for it, at least we were all told that was one of the major reasons behind the firing. Carbonneau said everything will work itself out in the end … but no one followed up that statement. What the heck does that mean? My mind has been spinning since. Guy, don't leave me hanging. What will work itself out in the end? Guy, work with me here buddy.

PJ starts to play Sudoku on computer. Forty-eight minutes pass.

Guy showed a ton of class Wednesday. He is still being paid by the Canadiens, which could be influencing his decision to be a mime at this particular point but all in all he was classy. The reporters respected his wishes to be silent on issues regarding the team until the season is done.

Everything was fine … until he said that everything will work itself out in the end. What will work itself out? The real reasons behind his firing will come out? The reasons why his team stopped playing? The real stories of what happened to the Habs off the ice? The truth behind Jean Perron's (Canadiens’ Stanley Cup winning coach in 1986) allegations against Price, Higgins and Kostitsyn? What will work itself out? The rumours of 27 not liking 11 and 11 not liking 27? The reasoning why Gainey didn't sign any of his 11 UFAs or didn't make a move at the trade deadline? What will work itself out in the end …?

The only answer is in the old cliché, only time will tell.

I want to see Montreal do well in the playoffs, but I can't wait for the year to end to get my answer. Guy, can you please answer my question?

What will work itself out in the end?
