Keyon Dooling of the New Jersey Nets has had successful arthroscopic hip surgery to remove loose particles from his right hip.

The procedure was performed Monday by Dr. Bryan Kelly and Dr. Riley Williams at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Dooling, who turns 29 on Friday, is expected to recover in time to open the 2009-10 NBA season.

The veteran guard played 77 games this season and averaged career highs in points (9.7), assists (3.5), rebounds (2.0) and minutes (26.9).

Dooling has averaged 7.2 points, 2.1 assists, 1.4 rebounds and 19.7 minutes in 524 appearances (54 starts) since he was selected 10th overall out of Missouri by the Orlando Magic in the 2000 NBA draft.
