Raptors strike deal with Kapono: report

Last Updated: Sunday, July 1, 2007 | 6:04 PM ET

The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement with free-agent sharpshooter Jason Kapono on a four-year, $24-million US contract, according to a report on ESPN.com.

NBA free agents cannot formally sign contracts until July 11, but Kapono's agent told ESPN.com on Sunday that his client has accepted Toronto's offer and will leave the Miami Heat.

"Jason is excited about this opportunity and intends to sign with the Raptors when the moratorium period ends," said agent Bob Myers.

Kapono, 26, led the NBA in three-point shooting last season with a 51.4 per cent success rate, and posted career highs with 10.9 points and 2.7 rebounds for the Heat.

He also won the three-point shooting contest during NBA all-star weekend in February.
