Since Toronto general manager Bryan Colangelo made the blockbuster trade to acquire scorer Rudy Gay in a three-team deal on Jan. 30, the Raptors have gone 3-2 in their last five games.
More importantly, it seems Gay has given Toronto reason to be optimistic moving forward. Gay’s biggest impact was in the Raptors’ come-from-behind 100-98 overtime victory against the Indiana Pacers on Friday.
In that game, Gay scored 17 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, hustled for a steal off the Pacers' in-bounds pass to set up Amir Johnson for the game's tying basket in regulation. He then drained the game-winning shot with 1.7 seconds left in overtime.
After witnessing the performance, coach Dwane Casey said Toronto finally has a "closer" on its roster.
But is the trade enough to have Colangelo, who signed a two-year contract with a team option for a third in May 2011, remain as the team's GM.
