Former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell is back with Minnesota and Flip Saunders, named an assistant coach on Tuesday.

Mitchell, 50, played for the Timberwolves for much of his playing career, including during the first tenure Saunders enjoyed as head coach.

Mitchell went 156-189 as head coach of Toronto between 2004 and 2008, leading the Raptors to two playoff berths.

Since leaving Toronto, Mitchell has worked in broadcasting and as an assistant with New Jersey in 2010-11.

Saunders was again named head coach of Minnesota earlier this month. He was the last coach to lead the Timberwolves to the playoffs, in 2003-04.
