Budinger hopes to play on Thursday at Sacramento for the first time since tearing the meniscus in his left knee in November.

Budinger practiced five-on-five on Wednesday for the first time since he was injured. He says if his knee responds well on Thursday, he will try to play against the Kings. The Timberwolves have sorely missed his perimeter shooting and movement without the ball. Budinger came over from Houston in the summer and quickly carved a role as a versatile wing player off the bench. He averaged 11.8 points in his first five games before being injured.

Budinger played Thursday for the first time since tearing the meniscus in his left knee in Nov. 10 against Chicago.

The 101-98 loss in Sacramento was Budinger's seventh game this season, and he finished with nine points in 18 minutes.

Budinger converted a layup on a feed from Andrei Kirilenko with 0.8 seconds to go, lifting the Timberwolves to a 96-94 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Friday night.

Budinger finished with 18 points and could be in line for a much bigger role if Brandon Roy (knee) is forced to miss time.
