Wallace ended a two-year retirement this season to join the Knicks and was a key player off the bench during their strong start. But he hadn't played since December before returning Monday against Charlotte, but he exited after 4 minutes because of continued soreness.
The 38-year-old Wallace was recovering from a fractured bone in his foot.
Wallace is day to day.
It was Wallace's 30th career ejection, according to STATS, LLC. The temperamental forward has been called for more than 300 techs in his career, leading the league seven times, though he said before the season he was more mellow now after a two-year retirement.
The 38-year-old Wallace last played for the Boston Celtics in the 2009-10 season. Terms of his contract signed Wednesday were not announced. Wallace joins an aging bench that includes Kurt Thomas, who turns 40 on Thursday, 39-year-old Jason Kidd and 38-year-old Marcus Camby.
