Toronto basketball fans have likely seen the last of Andrea Bargnani this season.
The seven-foot centre is expected to miss the balance of the NBA campaign with a sprained right elbow, the Raptors announced Wednesday.
The injury is not related to Bargnani’s previous elbow injury that sidelined him for 26 games earlier this season, the team said.
Bargnani, 27, left a March 8 game against the Los Angeles Lakers and didn’t return. The seven-foot native of Rome had appeared in 14 of 15 contests prior to the injury.
Bargnani, who averaged 12.7 points per game this season and shot 40 per cent from the field, was the subject of trade rumours prior to last month’s NBA deadline.
The 2006 first overall draft pick did not travel with the Raptors to Boston, where they are scheduled to face the Celtics Wednesday night.
