Drake's shout-out to Kevin Durant earns Raptors $25K fine: report
NBA sees gesture as tampering
Drake may have been trying to give Kevin Durant a taste of Toronto's hospitality, but the NBA saw it differently, according to a report from ESPN's Marc Stein.
At the Canadian rapper's annual OVO fest show at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto on Aug. 5, Drake acknowledged one of the famous faces in the crowd: NBA most valuable player Kevin Durant.
“My brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us,’’ Drake, who is also the Toronto Raptors Global Ambassador, told fans. “I just want him to see what would happen if he were to come play in Toronto.”
On Monday, Stein said league sources told him the Raptors would be fined $25,000 US for tampering with a player under contract.
Durant, who grew up a fan of the Raptors, remains under contract to the Oklahoma City Thunder until the end of the 2014-15 season.
