The NBA slapped Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett with a one-game suspension Sunday for throwing a punch at Detroit's Antonio McDyess.

Garnett, 30, will sit out Minnesota's game Sunday in Phoenix against the Suns.

The suspension is in response to an incident that occurred late in the fourth quarter of the Pistons' double-overtime victory over the Timberwolves on Friday night.

With 5:18 left in regulation, McDyess shoved Minnesota's Mark Madsen to the ground. Garnett then became angry and fired the ball at McDyess, who ran at Garnett with his fist up. Garnett backed up, but also took a swipe at McDyess as he retreated.

Both Garnett and McDyess were ejected from the game.

The loss of the talented forward is a big blow for Minnesota, as Garnett leads the team with 22.2 points and 12.8 rebounds per game this season.
