Baltimore Orioles lefty Rich Hill has had season-ending shoulder surgery, the team's manager said Saturday.

The operation was done Friday, according to Orioles manager Dave Trembley. Hill is expected to start throwing again by spring training.

Hill was put on the disabled list July 29, for the second time, with what Baltimore called "left shoulder inflammation." Hill said at the time that he was throwing with a torn labrum.

The 29-year-old was 3-3 with a 7.80 earned-run average in 14 games. Baltimore acquired him in a trade with the Chicago Cubs in February.
