Nick Johnson suffered a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist as he took a swing.
(J. Pat Carter/Associated Press)Washington Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because of a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist.
Johnson, 29, suffered the injury on a swing late in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the New York Mets.
He will be sidelined four to six weeks.
Johnson is hitting .220 with five home runs, 20 runs batted in, 15 runs scored and a whopping 33 walks in 38 games this season, his third with the Nationals.
He missed last season with a broken leg.
Johnson is a career .269 hitter with 81 HRs, 317 RBIs and 338 runs in 637 games since making his major-league debut with the New York Yankees on Aug. 21, 2001.
He played for the now-defunct Montreal Expos in 2004.
Johnson's roster spot will be filled by first baseman Dmitri Young, who will be activated Friday.
Young, 34, sprained his lower back on April 3 and landed on the DL five days later.
Aaron Boone replaced Johnson in the lineup in Washington's 1-0 victory over the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon, spoiling Mike Pelfrey's no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the seventh inning.
