Seattle Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, retroactive to April 9.

Bedard, from Navan, Ont., east of Ottawa, is suffering from inflammation in his left hip.

The 29-year-old left-hander is 1-0 with a 3.27 earned-run average in two starts.

Bedard posted a 13-5 record with a 3.27 ERA and 221 strikeouts in 28 starts last season, his fifth for the Baltimore Orioles.

He was traded to the Mariners for Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Chris Tillman, Tony Butler and Kam Mickolio on Feb. 8.

Bedard is 40-34 lifetime with a 3.82 ERA in 114 appearances (111 starts) since making his major-league debut with the Orioles on April 17, 2002.
