Toronto Blue Jays pitcher A.J. Burnett, who was taken off the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, will start Thursday against the Minnesota Twins (1:10 p.m. ET).

Burnett, 30, hasn't pitched since June 12, when he strained his right shoulder with two out in the fifth inning of a 3-2 road loss to the San Francisco Giants.

He landed on the DL a week later.

Burnett is 5-6 this season with a 4.00 earned-run average and two complete games in 14 starts.

The hard-throwing right-hander has struck out 100 batters and walked 40 in 90 innings pitched.

Burnett, who has a history of arm problems, made only 21 starts for Toronto last season because of nagging scar tissue on his right elbow.

He opened the season on the DL and was activated for two starts before being returned to the DL until June 22.

Pitcher Ty Taubenheim was returned to the triple-A Syracuse SkyChiefs to make room on the roster for Burnett.

Gregg Zaun cranked a two-run home run and five pitchers held the Twins without an extra-base hit as the Blue Jays won 5-4 on Wednesday night. They have taken two of the first three games of the series.

Carlos Silva (5-8, 3.98 ERA) will take to the mound Thursday afternoon for the Twins. In his last start, he allowed just one run on three hits in six innings to earn a win against the Florida Marlins.

The Blue Jays, in the midst of a 10-game road trip, will fly to Seattle for a three-game set with the Mariners beginning Friday.

The Blue Jays did not have to face Minnesota ace Johan Santana during their current series, and may also a get a break in Seattle, with young Mariners star Felix Hernandez not due to pitch on the weekend.
