The Toronto Blue Jays confirmed Wednesday that seldom-used infielder Ryan Roberts was released to make room on the roster for outfielder Howie Clark.
The Blue Jays also returned reliever Jamie Vermilyea to the Syracuse SkyChiefs of the triple-A International League.

Clark, 33, went 1-for-3 with a walk but stranded three runners as Toronto lost 10-5 to the New York Yankees before a crowd of 29,187 at the Rogers Centre on Wednesday night.
He is a career .273 hitter with three home runs, 23 runs batted in and 30 runs scored in 100 games over four MLB seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and Blue Jays.
He played 38 games for Toronto in 2003 and 40 games in 2004.
Roberts played eight games in a utility role, managing one hit in 13 at-bats for a .077 average with seven strikeouts and two walks.
The 26-year-old debuted with the Blue Jays last season, posting an identical .077 average in nine games.
Vermilyea, a 25-year-old rookie, pitched six spotless innings in two relief appearances for the Blue Jays, allowing five hits and striking out two batters.
