The Toronto Blue Jays looked to South America on Friday for more pitching help.
The Jays signed left-hander Jo Matumoto of Brazil to a minor-league contract while inviting the 36-year-old hurler to their big-league camp.
Matumoto, the ace of the Brazilian national team, has played pro ball in Japan and more recently with a professional team in his native Brazil.
Matumoto's agent Randy Hendricks arranged for a workout session in Tampa, Fla., on Wednesday with about 15 major-league teams. The Jays and Matumoto agreed on a contract Friday morning.
