After a woeful start to the year, Dickey has gone 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA over his last three outings. He still needs to cut down on his walks, though. The reigning NL Cy Young award winner is issuing 4.06 BB per nine innings - nearly twice as high as last year's mark of 2.08.
Dickey (3-5) struck out a season-high 10 in six innings, allowing two runs and six hits, to win for the first time since April 18 against the Chicago White Sox.
Dickey is 2-5 in his first seven starts this season compared to a 5-1 record through the same amount of starts last year.
The 2011 National League Cy Young award winner, Dickey left an April 18 start against the Chicago White Sox after six shutout innings with neck and back tightness and has lost his two starts since, April 23 at Baltimore and April 28 at New York.
The 38-year-old allowed three runs and four hits in seven innings, with four strikeouts and a walk. He's been slowed by soreness in his neck and back. "If I have to battle it for a while, I'll battle it for a while until it goes away," he said. "It gets marginally better between starts. It's just that when I have to start it breaks down again."
Dickey was forced to leave his last start on April 18 after throwing six shutout innings against the Chicago White Sox. The knuckleballer says he first experienced the injury in his previous start at Kansas City.
Dickey (2-2) allowed two hits, both singles. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner walked one, struck out a season-high seven and lowered his ERA from 5.82 to 4.30.
Toronto manager John Gibbons and trainer George Poulis went to the mound after Dickey struck out Dewayne Wise for the second out of the sixth. After a brief discussion, Dickey remained in the game and finished the inning. Dickey appeared to be rubbing his upper back as he left the dugout and walked to the clubhouse at the end of the inning. He was replaced by right-hander Esmil Rogers.
Dickey gave up five hits and struck out four as he improved to 1-2 with a 5.82 ERA.
Dickey allowed seven earned runs and 10 hits in just 4 2/3 innings. He fell to 0-2 with an 8.44 ERA on the season.
