Houston placed Cordero on the 15-day disabled list because of an inflamed right big toe. Manager Brad Mills says he first learned of Cordero's injury on July 25, five days after the reliever was acquired from Toronto.

Cordero is 0-3 with a 19.80 ERA and three blown saves in six games with Houston. He is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon and could return this season.

The Houston Astros have acquired Cordero and outfielder Ben Francisco as part of a 10-player trade with Toronto.

Cordero has 329 career saves, second among active players to the New York Yankees' Mariano Rivera (608). In 794 career relief appearances, the 37-year-old Cordero has a 3.28 ERA and has reached 40 or more saves in three seasons. Cordero is 3-5 with two saves in 41 appearances for Toronto this season.

Cordero and the Toronto Blue Jays have finalized a $4.5 million, one-year contract. The Blue Jays announced the deal Wednesday.

The 36-year-old right-hander was 5-3 with a 2.45 ERA and 37 saves in 43 chances for Cincinnati last season, reaching 30 saves for the seventh time. He held batters to a .198 average, the lowest of his career. Cordero, a three-time All-Star, has a 44-45 record with a 3.17 ERA and 327 saves, 12th on the career list. He replaces Frank Francisco, who agreed to a $12 million, two-year contract with the New York Mets.
