Familia is scheduled for surgery Wednesday on his right elbow, sidelining a promising young arm in New York's struggling bullpen.

Familia is on the 15-day disabled list with right biceps tendinitis and hasn't pitched since May 8. The team announced Tuesday that the rookie right-hander will have bone spurs and loose bodies removed at the Hospital for Special Surgery. The 23-year-old Familia has a 3.48 ERA and one save in eight games. He has struck out seven and walked seven in 10 1-3 innings.
